Dr. Erlich Sem is an experienced gynaecologist. He has over 20 years involvement in management of general gynaecological conditions and complicated gynaecological surgery. His special interest is in robot assisted minimally invasive (key holes) surgery to treat endometriosis, fertility issues, to remove fibroids, ovarian cysts and to perform hysterectomy.
Qualifications & Associations
Originally from Indonesia, Dr Erlich Sem completed his undergraduate education and received his medical degrees from University of Indonesia, Jakarta in 1997. He developed an interest in women’s health during his internship and later decided to migrate to Australia to further his training.
He began his obstetrics & gynaecology career working at The Women’s & Children’s Hospital, Adelaide – a busy tertiary hospital. After completing his Australian Medical Council examinations, he decided to move to Queensland.
He experienced a year working in the provincial town of Toowoomba, prior to moving to Gold Coast. He was accepted into Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists training program and underwent comprehensive training through Redland Hospital, Mater Mothers’ Hospital, Gold Coast Hospital and later, Gold Coast University Hospital.
As part of his elective training, for over 2 years he took the role of Gynaecologic Oncology Fellow at what was the Gold Coast Hospital at Nerang Street. He helped to establish the Gynaecological Oncology unit to become a well functioning and integrated oncology unit prior to transitioning to Gold Coast University Hospital. This further exposed him to complicated surgeries, both open and key holes, to treat benign and malignant conditions. He is extremely comfortable with complex dissection of pelvic structures, to safely achieve surgical objectives.
He speaks fluent Bahasa Indonesia and also Malay.
Dr Erlich Sem participates in ongoing professional development program, and may be away for conferences or teaching sessions. Dr Sem’s business manager will be able to advise you upfront those dates.

The operating theatres are state of the art integrated suites, designed with minimally invasive (key holes) procedures in mind. Gold Coast Private Hospital has also acquired the latest generation of Davinci Surgical Robot, DaVinci Xi, to provide a better tool for surgeons.
